Hi and Welcome. I hope this site will give you a reasonable introduction to me and the work we
do in the cultural factors lab. Please contact me if you need additional information. Be forewarned that this site is perpetually under construction
as I am making it myself as an excuse to learn to program in HTML from scratch. Feedback on the site is welcome.
To begin with, professionally I am anchored by my personal commitment to doing work with implications for
the social and educational outcomes of African American and other minority children. This commitment has lead me to pursue the kind of basic
research and scholarship that helps to inform discussion of the issues concerning these children.
My scholarly interests are also guided by a contextualist sensibility
about the nature of cognitive development and are influenced by recent extensions of Vygotskys Sociocultural theory. Our work in the Cultural Factors lab
builds on those ideas with a focus on aspects of African American culture, especially as they are distinguished from the mainstream of US culture. Our
work seeks build on the ideas in three related directions. Continued in Current Scholarship.
